We measure your corneal curvature (keratometry), assess your tear film quality, and evaluate your ocular health to determine the appropriate lens design and parameters. This is in addition to your comprehensive vision exam — contact lens fittings require a separate visit or an extended exam appointment.
We apply trial lenses and evaluate the fit on your actual eye — checking centration, movement, and vision quality. For first-time wearers, we provide hands-on training for insertion and removal. We send you home with trial lenses to evaluate comfort in your daily environment before finalizing the prescription.
A follow-up visit confirms the lenses are fitting and performing correctly before we finalize your prescription. We then help you order your supply through our office and provide guidance on wearing schedules, lens care, and when to replace. Annual contact lens exams are recommended to ensure continued fit and eye health.

This is typically done in a separate contact lens exam or as an extended component of your comprehensive eye exam. Your contact lens prescription is also a separate document from your glasses prescription and expires independently.
A first-time contact lens fitting typically takes 30–45 minutes in addition to your comprehensive exam. This includes measurements, trial lens application, evaluation of fit and vision, and insertion/removal training for new wearers. More complex fittings — such as toric, multifocal, or scleral lenses — may require additional time and follow-up visits before the prescription is finalized. Once your contact lens prescription is finalized, you can order lenses directly through our office or use your prescription to order from any authorized contact lens retailer. We provide your prescription for you to keep. We recommend ordering through us for the first supply to ensure you receive the correct lenses promptly and to make it easy to ask questions if anything seems off. Annual exams are required to maintain a current contact lens prescription.
